What started as a special education experiential project has developed into a unique form of sensory communication. By linking music to various materials, we discovered how powerful repetition and predictability can be, particularly for individuals with profound disabilities. Music brought relaxation, evoked a sense of familiarity, and fostered a connection where language is not enough.
To make this approach more widely accessible, we developed the BiM method – a method that enables others to engage in meaningful interaction through music and experience.
The BiM method is developed for children and adults with profound multiple disabilities with a developmental age of between 0 and 24 months. In practice, it has been found that the BiM method can also be used effectively with people with ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder),
people with mild intellectual disabilities, people with dementia, people with acquired brain injury (ABI) and even in mainstream education settings such as
nurseries and primary schools. Do you want to learn how music facilitates contact with others through our sensory music activities? Sign up for the BiM course and experience the power of Body in Music for yourself.
In recent years, it has become clear that the BiM is not only extremely effective for children and adults with profound multiple disabilities, but can also be applied to great effect
in elderly care settings. Many BiM activities are tailored to the needs of older people with various forms of dementia, such as Alzheimer’s, or with conditions such as Parkinson’s. Through repetition, structure and sensory stimulation, BiM offers recognition, calmness, and connection in an accessible manner.
Do you want to discover how music can help you make meaningful contact with participants in elderly care? Sign up for the BiM course and learn how to apply the BiM method in practice.
The BiM course is a practical and inspiring training in which you’ll learn how to use various music activities to establish sensory contact with people with PMD, dementia, or other impairments. Thousands of carers and therapists in day care centers, activity centers, residential care homes, and special educational needs schools have completed the BiM course. In practice, they have found that the targeted application of the BiM method improves the quality of care by supporting the development of clients and students. It is also apparent that the BiM method is an effective and practical tool that supports the LACCS, Basic Stimulation, and Experiential Ordering methods.
Behavioral specialists and special education teachers have observed not only the positive effects of BiM on clients and students, but also much enthusiasm among carers. Each year, new employees take the BiM course so that they, too, can apply the BiM method. The BiM approach is incorporated into action plans, personal development plans, group plans, and schedules; the method has been fully implemented within the organization.
We believe that these locations deserve special recognition for this in the form of the BiM Location Certificate. The BiM management team selects these locations and arranges a meeting with the team leadership to award the certificate.
We are here to answer all your questions about the BiM method and will be happy to further assist you!
